How to Check T-Shirt Quality: 7 Things to Look For
Share
Good T-shirt quality is not always obvious from a distance. Some of the most important details are found in places you may not immediately notice.
Before buying a T-shirt, take a closer look at the fabric, construction, stitching, collar, measurements, finishing, and color performance.
1. Check the Fabric
Start with the fabric. Look at its feel, density, surface, and overall consistency.
For everyday T-shirts, cotton is a practical choice because it provides a natural feel and good everyday comfort.
At tlatasher, our Essential Oversized T-Shirt is made from 100% cotton interlock selected according to specific quality requirements.
2. Inspect the Stitching
Clean and consistent stitching is one of the easiest ways to evaluate garment construction.
Look for straight seams, consistent stitches, secure joins, and areas where the fabric may be pulling or opening.
3. Check the Collar
The neckline is one of the most noticeable parts of a T-shirt during everyday wear.
A good collar should feel stable, sit correctly, and maintain its shape rather than becoming loose after repeated use.
4. Look at the Fit and Measurements
A quality T-shirt should have consistent proportions. Compare the measurements across different sizes and check whether the pattern looks balanced.
A size label alone does not tell you everything. Length, width, shoulder, and sleeve measurements give you a much clearer understanding of the actual fit.
5. Inspect the Finishing
Turn the garment inside out and look at the areas that are normally hidden.
Clean internal finishing, secure seams, and careful construction are indicators that attention was given to the garment beyond its appearance from the outside.
6. Consider Shrinkage
Cotton can naturally shrink during washing. A responsible garment manufacturer should understand and test how the fabric behaves after washing.
At tlatasher, fabric shrinkage is tested during product development, and the Essential Oversized T-Shirt is developed with approximately 2 cm of shrinkage after the first wash in mind.
7. Check Color Performance
Color should remain consistent with proper care. Color fastness testing helps evaluate how well a fabric maintains its color under expected conditions.
This is particularly important for darker and stronger colors, where fading can become noticeable over time.
Quality Is in the Details
A high-quality T-shirt is not defined by one feature alone. Fabric, pattern, stitching, collar, finishing, measurements, shrinkage, and color performance all contribute to the final result.
At tlatasher, we believe that quality is measured not only by what you can see, but also by what you cannot.
Every detail has a purpose.
